Joys of a new climate...

We are still getting used to the dramatic difference in climate from Eugene, Oregon to San Miguel/Paso Robles, Cali.  And so far we are really enjoying it.  There have been a few really warm days already, which is new, but we have been dealing with it well.  For example, my hubby found a great way to cool off with his 'redneck' pool/hot tub.  It has been cracking us up, but has also come in handy.

When it is warm, no fire, just a cool tub.  And when it is cool, light up the fire, which we pump water through a copper coil in the the fire pit and back to the tub.  Kind of ingenious, that man is.

The other thing that is so different is when to plant our vegis.  We got going early, planting greens and peas in February.  Look at the peas I just harvested already!  In Eugene, we were lucky if it was dry enough in May to even plant!

They were quite delicious.

Peppers are already coming on, and the tomatoes are doing well, too!

With it being sunny so often, the other thing that is different is how many eggs we get from the chickens!  Again, in Eugene, there was less light and was cooler, therefore the chickens molted and then slowed laying for the winter.

But here, they are always laying!  I forgot to check for a couple of days and was over run with eggs!

Overall, we are loving the change.  We need rain here badly (or should say needed, as it is now past rainy season here), but we are making the most of it, and loving getting to be outdoors so often.  Dinners are outside, relaxing in the tub or hammock outside, or even my 'mobile office' that I set up outside....

Just me and the dog out on a hill doing our work.  Not too shabby.

Hope you are enjoying your Spring, wherever you may be!

Instagram fun

It has been really busy at work right now, and will be for the next week and a half.  So, thought I'd share some of my Instagram photos that I have taken this week.

I love Instagram, but often forget to use it.  But I am getting better. ;)

I thought this ducky was too cute.  Just standing there all tall and cute in Salem, Oregon on a work trip.

Look at how big this Ball Jar is!  This store display gets me all excited to actually can some things this year!

A few of the plants that are waiting for their new home in my garden.  That is, if I ever finish the little fence to keep the chickens out!

And finally, check out my awesome new Sharpie collection!  I am so excited about this!  Can't wait to play with these more.  And, I got the new fabric pens!

I am working all weekend, but going to try and take breaks to find fun things to take pics of.  Need some kinds of creative outlet while working!

Happy Instagramming!

Chickens, buttons and plants...oh my!

A few of the things that have transpired in the last couple of weekends....

1.) We expanded the chicken coop into a chicken mansion!  It is not real pretty right now, but soon it will be all painted up and a nice place for the chickens to call home.

2.) The garden is growing!  My peas are sprouting, and carrots are planted.  I bought some new heirloom tomatoes, some basil, cucumber and pumpkin plants from our local food shelter's garden sale!  I am excited for a great harvest this year!

Peas are growing....

Lettuce, arugula, dill, flowers and spinach....

3.) Vintage button fun!  I took a Saturday trip around several wonderful antique shops in our neighboring city with a friend and found these great buttons in a jar there.  Who knows if they are truly vintage, but for $6, who could pass up these beauties?

And I used one of my favorites in the jar to make the pendant for my new necklace....

This coming weekend I am looking forward to enjoying a day outside for our yard sale and doing some more work in the yard and finally doing some sewing!

Have a wonderful week!
