Feature Fri...errr....Saturday...A Law Student's Journey!

Well...if I keep on like this I may have to change Feature Friday's to something like Star-blogger Saturday.  But for now, we will keep it Feature Friday, even if I am a day late much of the time.

This week, I am featuring Kitty's blog, A Law Student's Journey.  I LOVE this blog.  At first I did not know what to expect with the title.  Maybe a blog that was mostly about her life in law school and crafts here or there.  But this blog is SOO much more!

Kitty has some wonderful pics, awesome crafts, delicious recipes and great ways to get other bloggers traffic to their own website, which is super sweet!  And of course, stories from her law school life, with tips and thoughts for other soon to be law school students or current ones.

But...I gotta show a few of her wonderful creations.  How about this TOMS flag wallet?

And you know how I love my recycled and enviro crafts...so this is one of my faves!  Flower paper with a cute spoon plant marker!

And I love this birdhouse cardholder.  Hmmm....I need a cardholder for the office and home...

Much needed holiday

Yup...I missed the last Feature Friday.  BUT....I think I have a good excuse!  I was on the road for a much needed holiday.  It was an awesome, yet crazy, road trip with friends to San Fran then Reno and back.

It was kind of one of those trips where you are going non-stop.  But man, did we pack in the fun!

Gotta love the San Fran architecture.  Took lots of fun pics of cute houses!

We made our way to the Ferry Building...which is seriously awesome.  Great food, fun atmosphere.  If you go to San Fran, go there!  

Then the next day we made our way to Pier 39.  What a fun place!  I think I had been there when I was younger, but so fun as an adult!

And probably THE highlight of the trip was when my hubby got pulled onto the little stage to be the 'ventriloquist dummy'!  Oh....we about died from laughter!

Hubby also got some really cool shots of Alcatraz from the pay-to-view contraptions.

We did not make it on the tour this time, but we all decided we'd figure it out next time for sure!

Then we had to go see the sea lions.  This guys was hanging all alone.

And then we went to the....

Yup, I got a pic with Obama and Clinton. Look at them pose to be in a pic with me.

I love Cleopatra.  I was pretty amazed at how good these wax sculptures are!

After a trip to SF filled to the brim with activities, we bid the city goodbye and hit the road again, this time to go check out Reno, NV.

We decided to stay on the cheap at the Sands, which was awesomely retro!  Check out Mel's, where we had our first meal in Reno.

Apparently, I did not get as many pics in Reno, though.  I was kind of surprised at how many places have closed down since we last visited, about 7 or 8 years ago.  It is a fun 'little' city, but has def seen better days.

Saturday, we went to see my parents in Clio.  You may remember the cute little tiny town with this funny little sign from an earlier trip...so cute!  And pretty relaxing with yummy, homemade food!

Finally, we hit the pool for a few hours to get our sun fix, and we packed up and started for home.  I have to say, that I really do kind of miss the desert.  Growing up in AZ made me appreciate the warmth, sun, and the sparse, yet impressive scenery.

We made it home safe and sound at about 1am.  Whew!  Next time, we add a day or two of down time before going back to work, though!  Today was a little rough!

Blueberry picking...

The other day my friend and I went to pick some blueberries before they were all picked and gone.  While we had to do a bit of searching, we both did pretty good!

It was a little farm that is just near Mt Pisgah in Eugene.  My friend knew about it, and I was surprised how close to town it was!  How come I didn't find this out sooner?

See, there were still a few.

And my friend gave me the best berry freezing tip ever.  It seems so simple, but it was something I never thought of.  She spreads the berries on piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet and freezing the berries for about 20 minutes.  Then you put it in your freezer container and the berries won't stick together!  Duh! Maybe you already knew that, but it was one of those ah-ha moments!

Feature Fridays and Little House in the Suburbs!

This week I have to feature a blog that I go to all the time for tips and advice for backyard farming, Little House in the Suburbs.  I first stumbled onto the site when I was searching for advice on my loud little chickens.  Sometimes my girls get a total bug up their...ahem...feathers... and I was curious if I was doing something wrong.  I found that other people also have issues, and that girls just tend to want to squawk their little heads off when they lay an egg.  I guess if I was laying an egg that size everyday, I'd be pretty proud, too. (Or something like that.)

Anyway, Deanna and Daisy basically have everything you'd want to know and learn about working with a backyard farmyard, aka, urban farming.  Like these FAQ/Chicken Myths post that I love.  Or patterns for crochet dishcloths like this cute Cabbage Patch one...

And I think you know by now how much I love reusing and recycling and they have a whole craft section on this.  I LOVE this garden bench made from an old bed frame.  I am working on my yard this summer and think this might be just the thing I need!

And all kinds of DIY's, including body care products, cleaning products, or things for the house and garden, like this little rainbow trellis!

Antiquing in Coburg, Oregon

Recently we made a mini-trip out to a neighboring tiny city, Coburg, Oregon.  They have many cute little antique shops there, and I had to share some of the things I found to be extra interesting.

Ok...this was something I really had to tell myself that I did not need.  But I totally had this colorfoms playset as a kid!  Sometimes I wish I'd held onto things like this...but then again I might have become a hoarder if I had.

I just loved this set.  With things coming in disposable containers now, we rarely put up things like oil and vinegar in a nice container.  I am still contemplating this set, as I am trying harder to purchase things in bulk and cut down on my footprint on the earth.

And speaking of throwing things away now...check this out!  These were so interesting to me!  They are little metal disks that you put over holes in your pots and pans so you could fix them, rather than toss them. 

Hmmm...I think I have a theme here.  I mean, who saves old cardboard items?  Yet I was all about these.  The strawberry containers were covered in wax to keep them stiff and sterile.  I love the retro look.  And the egg container...would be perfect for my girls' eggs!

Feature Fridays and Waxy Pin....well....Little Brass Acorn!

Ok, ok....I know I am a day late again.  It's a good thing that no one can fire me from this job!  But....drumroll please....today begins my 2 week vacation!  I am so excited about all the things I can blog about to you!

This Feature Friday, I want to feature my friend, Annette, who has such an artistic way to her. I've known her for many years now, and I am always impressed with her attention to detail.  So when she said she was starting her own blog and Etsy shop, I was super excited to see her creations.  The name of her blog is Waxy Pin.  BUT....after much deliberation, she is relocating to a new blog, called Little Brass Acorn.  

So, what I am telling you to do, is go check out all the wonderful things on Waxy Pin to then get a taste of the great things to come at Little Brass Acorn.  As she says, "The focus at my new place will be on stories, small artworks, books, and writing.  I am planning on posting a new recipe or tutorial there when the occasion arises."  And boy, does she have some great recipes!  Look at this....

Mmmmm....Plum and Almond Torte...I have yet to try it, but it looks wonderful!

And some of her creations are just too much.  Look at her recent post where she shares her 'Rhinestone Cowboy Apron'.  How fun is this!?

How awesome is it to have the tie as the belt and holster!
